The Auburn Tigers are showing no signs of slowing down in their quest to secure top in-state talent. Already boasting the No. 1 player in Alabama for the 2027 class, Donivan Moore, head coach Alex Golesh is making a push to continue the streak with the state’s top 2028 prospect: quarterback Kingston Preyear.
Preyear, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound four-star quarterback, is currently rated as the third-best signal-caller nationally in the 2028 class and the best overall player in Alabama. Following a recent visit to Auburn, Preyear left impressed by what he saw on the Plains.
“My visit was great,” Preyear said. “I got to sit in on meetings, watch practice, review film, and really see how things operate day-to-day. The tempo, the energy, and the way they coach stood out. It gave me a clear picture of what it would be like to be part of the program.”
During his time on campus, Preyear had the chance to meet multiple coaches, including Golesh, Joel Gordon, Jeff Jones, Hayden Kingston, and Time Greene. He was especially struck by the staff’s authenticity and their intentional approach to building relationships with him.
“The coaching staff is very genuine,” Preyear said. “I like Coach Golesh’s approach to developing his players and staff on and off the field. What stood out was how they interacted with players—I could see they are authentic people.”
For Preyear, Auburn represents more than just a winning program. He appreciates the program’s focus on competing at the highest level and the legacy of athletes who have come before him.
“When I think of Auburn, I think about competing at the highest level every week and being part of a program that expects to win,” he said. “I think of all the great athletes that have worn the uniform and the great people in the fan community.”
Unlike some recruits who prioritize NIL deals or big-name schools, Preyear is focused on fit, development, and the opportunity to compete for championships.
“Auburn is definitely one of the schools I’m taking a strong look at,” he said. “I’m still going through the process, building relationships, and making sure I find the best overall fit for me. I’m just focused on finding the right fit—somewhere that feels like home, where I can grow on and off the field, and compete for championships. Auburn is definitely a place that checks a lot of those boxes for me.”
Even as a young player, Preyear demonstrates a mature understanding of football and the steps required to reach the next level.
“I’ve started to look at the game more from a development standpoint,” he said. “Understanding schemes, leadership, and what it takes to prepare at the next level, not just rely on talent. No matter the situation, I’m going to compete, stay locked in, and put my team in the best position to win.”
Auburn’s momentum in Alabama recruiting appears to be building, and the addition of Preyear to the Tigers’ radar could mark another major step in the program’s effort to secure the state’s top talent for years to come.
