The Buffalo Bills are once again facing an offseason of figuring out how to overcome the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs, after being eliminated for the fourth consecutive time by Andy Reid’s squad. Despite a solid regular season and two playoff victories, when it came down to the AFC Championship game, the Chiefs made a few more key plays than Buffalo.
So, how can the Bills finally get past that hurdle? ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky discussed this on One Bills Live, suggesting that the Bills need to add another impactful weapon to the offense. “I agree that there’s a need for one piece of elite perimeter talent,” Orlovsky said.
“It doesn’t necessarily have to be the No. 1 receiver, but someone who can consistently make a difference in the game.” He added that the Bills should focus on Amari Cooper’s and Keon Coleman’s development, but ultimately, they need a playmaker who can elevate the offense. So, should the Bills look to the draft or free agency for this addition?
The Amari Cooper trade didn’t pan out as hoped — he had only 297 yards and two touchdowns on 20 receptions, and in three playoff games, he totaled just 41 yards from six catches. That kind of production isn’t enough, especially with Amari now hitting free agency. Will Buffalo bring him back after this season?
So the Bills have a lot of needs, particularly on defense, but maybe getting Allen another weapon that can impact games is job No. 1. As Orlovsky states, it doesn’t have to be a stud receiver but someone like a Darius Slayton or Brandin Cooks, both of whom are free agents and still have speed to threaten down the field. Either way, the Bills have to find a way to get past this mental blocking in the playoffs, and maybe getting Allen another weapon is the answer.
