Auburn has been dealt its first major setback of fall camp after projected starting offensive lineman Tai Buster suffered an injury that is expected to keep him sidelined until roughly the middle of the 2026 season. The news was confirmed by head coach Alex Golesh, who described the injury as a significant loss for the Tigers’ offensive line heading into the new campaign.
Buster had emerged as one of Auburn’s biggest offseason success stories. After an impressive spring and a standout summer conditioning program, the young lineman was widely expected to earn a starting role as the Tigers looked to rebuild an offensive front that will be critical to the team’s success this fall. His physical development and consistency had drawn praise from coaches throughout the offseason, making the injury even more disappointing for the program.
Speaking to reporters, Golesh said Buster had been “working his tail off” and expressed confidence that the lineman will return later in the season. While the coach did not reveal the exact nature of the injury, he indicated the current timeline has Buster targeting a return around the midway point of the schedule if his rehabilitation progresses as expected.
The injury immediately reshapes Auburn’s offensive line competition. With Buster unavailable, several veteran linemen and younger players will receive increased opportunities during fall camp as the coaching staff searches for the best combination up front. Establishing continuity along the offensive line has been one of Auburn’s top priorities entering the 2026 season, and losing a projected starter before the first game presents a significant challenge.

Despite the setback, Auburn also received encouraging news regarding veteran offensive lineman Stanton Ramil. Golesh said Ramil has recovered well after missing spring practice and has returned to full strength. The coaching staff plans to ease him into camp, but his availability could help offset some of the loss created by Buster’s injury.
The Tigers are entering a pivotal season under Golesh, and expectations remain high despite the early adversity. Auburn believes it has improved talent across the roster through recruiting and the transfer portal, but injuries during preseason camp can quickly test a team’s depth before the regular season even begins.

For Buster, the focus now shifts to recovery. Coaches remain optimistic he can return later this season and provide a boost during SEC play, but in the meantime Auburn’s offensive line will have to move forward without one of its projected starters.
As fall camp continues, all eyes will be on how the Tigers adjust to the unexpected loss and which players step up to seize the opportunity created by Buster’s absence.
