The Auburn Tigers landed a major in-state recruiting victory Thursday when Hueytown (Ala.) defensive lineman Donivan Moore announced his commitment to the program. The 6-foot-4, 280-pound standout gives head coach Alex Golesh his second pledge in the 2027 recruiting class and immediately boosts the Tigers’ national profile.
Moore is widely regarded as one of the premier defensive prospects in the country. He is ranked No. 52 nationally in the 2027 Rivals300 and graded as the No. 5 defensive lineman in the class. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, he sits as the No. 72 overall player nationally, a top-five defensive lineman, and the No. 1 recruit in the state of Alabama. With elite size, strength, and athleticism for his age, Moore has drawn comparisons to some of the top defensive line prospects to come out of the state in recent years.
His recruitment was highly competitive. Moore chose Auburn over a long list of powerhouse programs, including the Alabama Crimson Tide, Ohio State Buckeyes, LSU Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oklahoma Sooners, Tennessee Volunteers, Texas Longhorns, Ole Miss Rebels, and USC Trojans, among more than 30 scholarship offers overall. Auburn positioned itself strongly after extending an offer last fall, and momentum continued to build when Moore publicly named the Tigers his top school on Feb. 1 following a campus visit. After returning for Junior Day, he made his decision official Thursday on X, formerly known as Twitter, declaring he would stay home.
On the field, Moore’s production matches his recruiting hype. As a sophomore at Hueytown High School, he recorded 58 tackles, nine tackles for loss, and seven sacks. He also forced two fumbles and showcased surprising versatility by snagging two interceptions, both of which he returned for touchdowns. His ability to disrupt plays in the backfield, collapse the pocket, and even contribute in coverage situations highlights a rare blend of power and athleticism for a defensive lineman.
Moore becomes Auburn’s first defensive commitment in the 2027 class and joins Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage three-star tight end Trae Proctor, who pledged to the Tigers on Jan. 19. With Moore’s commitment, Auburn’s 2027 recruiting class made a notable jump in the national rankings. According to 247Sports’ class calculator, the Tigers moved from No. 54 nationally and No. 15 in the SEC to as high as No. 36 nationally and No. 11 in the conference.
Beyond the rankings boost, Moore’s decision carries symbolic weight. Securing the No. 1 player in Alabama over traditional national powers reinforces Auburn’s ability to protect its home state borders. For Golesh and his staff, landing an elite defensive lineman early in the cycle provides a foundational building block around which the rest of the class can take shape. If Moore continues his developmental trajectory, he could anchor Auburn’s defensive front for years to come and serve as a key recruiter peer for other top prospects considering the Tigers.
