“If the New York Mets are indeed offering between $120 million and $140 million over a three-year span to free-agent outfielder Kyle Tucker, as league sources indicated Tuesday, the question becomes whether that amount will be enough,” Sammon wrote.

The Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers remain major players in Tucker’s market, but the Mets’ proposal represents the first concrete indication of an actual offer. A deal worth up to $140 million over at least three seasons would be a compelling option for the former Cubs star.

At $120 million over three years, Tucker would earn a massive $40 million annually. Increasing that total to $140 million without extending the contract length would push his average salary to roughly $46 million per season.

Sammon reported that the proposal spans more than three years, and if the total value is around $140 million, it’s unlikely the Mets offered a five-year deal at that price point. The most plausible structure would be a four-year contract worth $140 million.

The offer equates to roughly $35 million per year for Tucker. While it’s a strong proposal, it may be difficult for the Mets to outbid the Blue Jays if Toronto is willing to go longer in years at a similar average annual value.

By putting this deal on the table, the Mets are clearly showing serious interest in Tucker, but they also appear hesitant to commit to a long-term contract, instead favoring a shorter deal with a higher AAV. The soon-to-be 29-year-old outfielder remains the top player available on the free-agent market, and New York is attempting to lure him with an offer in the $120–$140 million range over three years.

It’s a compelling proposal and one worth monitoring as Tucker’s free-agent market continues to take shape this winter.
