An MLB insider has suggested that Bryce Harper may be dissatisfied with his current $330 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. On the “Pinstripe Post” podcast, New York Post reporter Joel Sherman stated, “I think that this is a player that is angry about the contract he’s currently operating under.” Sherman speculated that Harper might be seeking adjustments to his deal, which runs through 2031, and could potentially request a trade if those changes aren’t made.
Sherman’s comments follow a season where Harper posted a .261 batting average and .844 OPS, his lowest since 2019, and struggled in the postseason with a .200 average. Phillies president Dave Dombrowski also questioned whether Harper could return to elite form, despite his consistent All-Star appearances.
Harper has previously expressed strong opinions on baseball’s economic system. In July, he confronted MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred during a meeting, telling him to leave if he was there to discuss a salary cap.
While Harper has a no-trade clause, Sherman suggested that a trade could still be possible if Harper desires it, noting that the Phillies might consider moving him if they believe it would benefit the team.
