The Buffalo Bills claimed a strong 30-20 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 10, extending their divisional lead and demonstrating their defensive strength. With an 8-2 record, Buffalo sits at the top of the AFC East, continuing to display their adaptability on both offense and defense.
Fournette, who was recently released from the Bills’ practice squad, totaled 12 carries for 40 yards during the 2023 season with Buffalo. The former Jacksonville Jaguar and Tampa Bay Buccaneer joined the team in October of the previous year but had limited opportunities within the Bills’ offense.
Soon after Fournette signed with the team, the Bills made the decision to part ways with offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, and his replacement, Joe Brady, seemed to prefer utilizing depth running back Ty Johnson over Fournette. Bills head coach Sean McDermott suggested that the release of Fournette was primarily due to the need for greater roster flexibility on the practice squad, especially considering Buffalo’s recent injury issues at the time.
The Bengals’ backfield issues extend beyond Fournette’s potential addition. Recently acquired running back Khalil Herbert fumbled in his Bengals debut, although he recovered, prompting Cincinnati to examine alternative options.
With rookie Chase Brown currently leading a depleted backfield and veteran Zach Moss on injured reserve, the Bengals are evaluating Fournette and Herbert as possible solutions. If signed, Fournette is expected to begin on the practice squad, where he could earn his way to a more impactful role.
Looking ahead, the Bills are preparing for a Week 11 clash with the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs, led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. A win would strengthen Buffalo’s position in the AFC and further establish them as a top contender this season.
