The Detroit Red Wings have made an intriguing low-risk addition, acquiring forward Sutter Muzzatti from the Nashville Predators in exchange for future considerations.
Muzzatti, a 23-year-old forward, is an interesting addition because of his combination of size and offensive ability. Standing at 6-foot-6 and weighing 241 pounds, the Michigan native gives Detroit another big-bodied forward to add to its organizational depth.
The move comes after Muzzatti enjoyed the best offensive season of his college career at Notre Dame in 2025-26. He recorded 13 goals, 19 assists and 32 points in 37 games, finishing second on the team in both goals and total points. His performance helped put him back on the radar as a potential professional player.

Muzzatti previously spent time at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, where he accumulated 50 points in 78 games over three seasons. That experience, combined with his breakout season at Notre Dame, gives the Red Wings reason to believe there could be more offensive potential to unlock.
Detroit also signed Muzzatti to a two-year entry-level contract following the acquisition. The organization now has an opportunity to develop him within its system and determine whether he can eventually become an NHL contributor.
For Nashville, the move allows the Predators to receive future considerations for a player whose signing rights were becoming an issue. For Detroit, meanwhile, the cost is minimal, making this an appealing gamble on a young forward with intriguing upside.
Muzzatti is unlikely to immediately step into a prominent NHL role. A more realistic path could see him begin his professional career in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins, where he can adjust to the faster and more physical professional game.
The Red Wings have been looking for ways to strengthen their organizational depth, and Muzzatti gives them another player worth monitoring. His size alone makes him an intriguing prospect, but his offensive production at Notre Dame is what makes this acquisition particularly interesting.

There is no guarantee that Muzzatti becomes an NHL regular, but Detroit didn’t have to surrender a major asset to find out. If he can translate his college production to the professional level, the Red Wings could eventually have another big forward pushing for an opportunity in Detroit.
For now, it’s a relatively small transaction, but one that could prove to be a smart piece of business for the Red Wings if Muzzatti continues developing.
