Arizona State Transfer Land Commitment of a Talented Star

Arizona State secured a commitment from Cameron Dyer, who guided his team to a New Mexico 6A state championship last season with an impressive 55 touchdowns from scrimmage.

Dyer, honored as New Mexico’s 2023 Gatorade Player of the Year, chose Arizona State following an official visit to Tempe over the weekend. The standout quarterback from La Cueva High School in Albuquerque, standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 202 pounds, orchestrated 55 touchdowns during his junior year, propelling the Bears to a 10-3 record and clinching the 6A state title. His stats included 2,897 passing yards, 29 passing touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 1,492 rushing yards, and 26 rushing touchdowns.

Despite his accomplishments, Dyer, ranked as the No. 618 overall prospect and the No. 44 athlete in the 2025 class according to the 247Sports Composite, is expected to transition to wide receiver at Arizona State under the guidance of first-year assistant coach Hines Ward.

Expressing his confidence in this decision, Dyer emphasized the influence of Ward, a former NFL legend and potential Hall of Famer, who himself transitioned from quarterback to wide receiver. Dyer cited Ward’s belief in his potential NFL prospects, which deeply resonated with him.

While other schools primarily viewed him as a quarterback, Arizona State, alongside Texas Tech and Utah, recruited him for alternative positions. Texas Tech and Utah eyed him for safety roles, while Arizona State’s interest in him as a wide receiver played a pivotal role in his commitment.

Reflecting on his journey, Dyer recalled La Cueva’s challenging start to the season, going 0-3 before rallying to win ten consecutive games and clinch the state championship. This experience taught him invaluable lessons in leadership that he cherishes.
