Breaking: Houston Received Another Groundbreaking News With The signing of Another Veteran Player

The Houston Astros have signed right-hander Jordan Weems to a minor league contract, according to Chandler Rome of The Athletic. Weems will report to Triple-A Sugar Land, offering the Astros added pitching depth outside the 40-man roster.

Weems, 32, was recently released by the Braves after signing a minor league deal this offseason. At Triple-A, he posted a 5.09 ERA over 17 2/3 innings, with a solid 22.5% strikeout rate and 45.1% ground ball rate, though his 12.5% walk rate was high. Despite not earning a call-up, he does have some major league experience.

From 2022–2023 with the Nationals, Weems threw 94 1/3 innings with a 4.29 ERA and a strong 25.4% strikeout rate, though his 10.1% walk rate was a bit above average. However, his performance dipped in 2023, with a 6.70 ERA, reduced strikeouts (17.9%), and an increased walk rate (12.2%). He was outrighted to the minors last August and chose free agency after the season.

Between last season’s struggles in the majors and his underwhelming performance in the minors this year, it’s been a rough stretch for Jordan Weems. Still, he proved to be a capable big league reliever during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. For the Astros, signing him to a minor league deal carries little risk and offers a chance to evaluate him up close. While their bullpen has been solid in 2025, adding non-roster depth is a sensible move in case injuries arise later in the season.
