Detroit Red Wings may already possess one of the NHL’s strongest goaltending prospect pipelines, but that likely would not stop the organization from exploring a blockbuster opportunity to acquire an elite proven star like Connor Hellebuyck.
Trade speculation surrounding the Winnipeg Jets superstar intensified after his comments following Winnipeg’s playoff exit, with some around the league wondering whether frustration could eventually lead to a trade request. If that scenario develops, Detroit could emerge as one of the few teams with enough assets to realistically enter the conversation.
One proposed trade idea would send Hellebuyck to Detroit in exchange for a 2027 first-round pick, top goalie prospect Sebastian Cossa, and defense prospect Anton Johansson.
It would undoubtedly be a massive gamble for the Red Wings, but one that could instantly change the trajectory of the franchise.
Hellebuyck remains one of hockey’s premier goaltenders and has consistently carried Winnipeg through difficult stretches over the past several seasons. A former Vezina Trophy and Hart Trophy winner, he possesses the type of elite game-changing ability that can immediately elevate a playoff hopeful into a legitimate Stanley Cup contender.
