The Texas Rangers parted ways with one of Aaron Judge’s close friends on Monday, releasing infielder Tyler Wade.
Judge and Wade developed a strong relationship while rising through the minor league system of the New York Yankees, forming a bond that carried into their major league careers. The move was first reported by Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News, who noted that Texas granted Wade his release after a brief stint with the organization.
Wade had signed a minor league deal with the Rangers during the offseason after spending the previous two years with the San Diego Padres. Known more for his versatility than his bat, Wade offers speed and defensive flexibility, capable of playing both infield and outfield positions. However, his offensive production has lagged behind, as reflected in his career .578 OPS with just seven home runs across 992 plate appearances.
Beyond his on-field profile, Wade has also been connected to Judge off the field. In 2022, ahead of Judge’s free agency, Wade even attempted to recruit his former teammate to the Los Angeles Angels after being traded there from the Yankees.
While Wade now searches for his next opportunity, his release marks another roster move for the Rangers as they continue to evaluate depth options early in the season.
