The Philadelphia Phillies have been among the more active teams this offseason, though much of their focus has been on retaining their own talent. Re-signing players like Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto has positioned Philadelphia to once again challenge the Los Angeles Dodgers for supremacy in the National League.
With spring training rapidly approaching, the Phillies have fewer roster moves left to make. Still, they added some depth over the weekend. According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, Philadelphia agreed to a minor-league contract with veteran reliever Lou Trivino on Saturday.
Trivino finished the 2025 season with the Phillies after also spending time with the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers. He originally broke into the majors with the Oakland Athletics before later pitching for the New York Yankees. Injuries derailed multiple seasons of his career, but Trivino managed to work his way back to the mound last year, splitting time among three organizations.
Now, the 33-year-old right-hander gets another opportunity to prove he can still contribute at the major-league level, competing for a bullpen role as camp opens in Clearwater.
The veteran right-hander delivered a strong showing during his brief stint with the Phillies. In 10 appearances totaling nine innings, he gave up just six hits and two earned runs.
Although Philadelphia didn’t lean on him as heavily as they might have, he still contributed meaningful innings late in the season. While he faces an uphill climb to secure a spot on the major-league roster, it’s far too soon to rule him out.
