The Toronto Blue Jays have had an active offseason, frequently appearing in MLB rumors connected to several high-profile free agents. After falling just short against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto is searching for the final piece that could push the club to a World Series title.
That missing addition might come from Chicago. In his predictions for the top remaining MLB free agents, CBS Sports’ R.J. Anderson projects that the Blue Jays will sign Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker.
In a December 30, 2025, article titled “Predicting landing spots for the top 10 remaining MLB free agents: Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman and more,” Anderson described Tucker as the best overall talent available, noting that while he excels in many areas, he doesn’t quite match the superstar level of recent offseason headliners such as Juan Soto, Shohei Ohtani, and Aaron Judge.
Despite that, Tucker remains an All-Star caliber player who is expected to land with a new team in the coming weeks. He has frequently been linked to the Blue Jays this offseason, who appear to be the most logical destination, as he would represent a clear upgrade over Nathan Lukes while also providing protection in case Anthony Santander does not bounce back. Big-spending teams such as the Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers have also been mentioned as possible suitors to varying degrees.
Cubs Star Kyle Tucker Appears To Be Having Trouble Landing $400 Million Contract
Spotrac estimates Kyle Tucker’s market value at a massive 10-year, $401 million contract, a significant jump from the $16.5 million salary he earned with the Cubs in 2025. However, New York Post insider Jon Heyman has suggested that Tucker may ultimately sign for less than those lofty projections, a development that could benefit the Blue Jays.
Heyman noted that the top free agent on the market has generated relatively little buzz lately, aside from a reported visit to Toronto’s spring training facility in Dunedin, Florida. Toronto, which has already handed out the largest contract of the offseason by signing Dylan Cease to a $210 million deal and currently leads the league in spending, could be an appealing destination thanks to its strong roster and spring training location close to Tucker’s Tampa-area home.
