The Buffalo Bills’ wide receiver group is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing storylines heading into the season, as quarterback Josh Allen and offensive coordinator Joe Brady look to build on last year’s success.
With Amari Cooper and Mack Hollins gone, the team has brought in Joshua Palmer and Elijah Moore to bolster the passing attack alongside the existing talent.
Palmer, who spent the last four seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers and tallied over 500 receiving yards in each of the last three, is expected to add a valuable dimension to the offense.
According to The Athletic’s Joe Buscaglia, Palmer fills a key void from last season.
“Palmer is exactly what the Bills lacked in their offense last year,” Buscaglia wrote. “He’s a route-running technician who excels at creating separation and has enough speed to be a vertical threat. That skill set could lead to more production than many are currently projecting for him.”
The speed and vertical threat that Joshua Palmer brings to the table is something Josh Allen and Joe Brady will undoubtedly look to take advantage of this season. With Khalil Shakir manning the slot and rookie Keon Coleman still developing on the outside, Palmer’s ability to stretch the field could be a key factor in unlocking the offense.
As the Bills continue to embrace their “everybody eats” philosophy, Palmer’s knack for creating separation and getting open downfield may be just what Allen needs to reignite his deep passing game.
And that’s a scary thought for opposing defenses.
While it’s all projection at this point, there’s little doubt that Joshua Palmer will be a significant part of Joe Brady’s offense—and with Josh Allen delivering the ball, he’s likely to surpass the 39-catch mark that he couldn’t top in each of the last two seasons.
Some believe the Bills still need another playmaker to solidify themselves as true contenders, but Palmer could already be the answer. His route-running, field-stretching ability, and knack for separation might be exactly what Buffalo needs to elevate its offense to the next level.
