The Buffalo Bills are in desperate need of a game-changing pass rusher on the edge. Despite multiple years of opportunity, Greg Rousseau and A.J. Epenesa have yet to meet the high expectations set for them in that role.
To address this pressing need, the Bills have several options. They could once again turn to the draft in hopes of finding a solution, or they might explore a major trade for a top-tier player like Myles Garrett. Alternatively, they could look to the free-agent market, with Jon Santucci of Treasure Coast Palm suggesting that Buffalo should sign Khalil Mack to strengthen their pass rush.
“A return to the city where Mack played his college football? Why not,” writes Santucci. “It’s probably a long shot given Buffalo’s salary cap constraints, but it makes sense for both parties. The Bills need depth at edge rusher, they’re a legitimate Super Bowl contender, and they like to rotate their pass rushers, which would help Mack stay fresher throughout the season.”
In theory, Buffalo could pursue both options. Signing Mack to a one-year, budget-friendly deal could open the door for a trade for Myles Garrett, potentially forming one of the NFL’s top pass-rush duos. Even without acquiring Garrett, however, adding Mack would still be a valuable move and a solid first step toward strengthening the team’s pass rush.
Mack, a five-time Pro Bowler, had an impressive 2023 season with 17 sacks. While his sack total dropped to six in 2024, he still managed 22 pressures. After completing a six-year, $140 million contract, he signed a one-year, $19.2 million deal to return to the Chargers for the 2024 season.
