Virginia Tech lands home in commitment another talented player from a good team

When Matt Moore was hired to replace Ron Crook as Virginia Tech’s offensive line coach, he faced the challenge of rebuilding the unit nearly from scratch, with many players either exhausting their eligibility or transferring. There was a lot of work to be done.

Moore didn’t have to wait long for his first commitment, as Tomas Rimac, who had followed him from West Virginia, became the first addition. With one year of eligibility left, Rimac marked the beginning of what would be several transfers needed to fill out the line. On Monday afternoon, the Hokies secured their second commitment for the offensive line, and once again, it was a familiar face for Moore.

Kyle Altuner, a former West Virginia offensive lineman, committed to Virginia Tech while the Hokies were in Charlotte preparing for the Duke’s Mayo Bowl against Minnesota. Altuner, a former four-star recruit in the 2024 class, was West Virginia’s highest-rated recruit and ranked as the 14th-best interior offensive lineman nationally. He brings four years of eligibility to the Hokies, helping to bolster the position.

With departures including Xavier Chaplin (transferred to Auburn), Braelin Moore (who committed to LSU), and the loss of Parker Clements and Kaden Moore due to expired eligibility, Moore still has a lot of work ahead—both in the transfer portal and developing the returning younger players. However, the addition of Rimac and Altuner represents a solid start to rebuilding the offensive line in Blacksburg.
