The Hokies appear to have avoided a major disaster with an injury to running back Bhayshul Tuten against Marshall.
In the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 31-14 victory over Marshall, Virginia Tech fans were on edge when running back Bhayshul Tuten sustained an injury after a defender hit him and landed awkwardly on his leg. This season, the Hokies’ offense has notably thrived with the North Carolina A&T transfer in the lineup.
Tuten managed to walk off the field, which was a positive sign, and he tested his leg on the sideline. Despite a strong performance in the third quarter, he was less effective for the remainder of the game. After the match, running back Elijah Brooks provided an optimistic update on Tuten’s condition.
After the game, Brooks provided an update on Tuten that should reassure Hokies fans, especially since Tuten had rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown.

“He wants to get out there and play every single snap, and sometimes you gotta hold him back so he doesn’t hurt himself anymore. But he’s fine. We thought it was in his best interest to just hold him out.”
With a three-touchdown lead, Brooks and head coach Brent Pry made the prudent choice to keep Tuten out of the game. Re-inserting him wasn’t necessary, as Malachi Thomas and P.J. Prioleau were fully capable of handling the rushing duties.
Preserving Tuten’s health early in the season is crucial, and resting him in a game that Virginia Tech had well in hand was a wise move. Thomas and Prioleau effectively managed the clock with their carries.
For the Hokies to succeed offensively, Kyron Drones and Tuten, along with their running game, will be key. Monitoring Tuten’s practice participation leading up to the Old Dominion game will be important.
