The Seattle Mariners have appointed Jake McKinley, most recently the head coach of Nevada Wolf Pack baseball, as their Major League Field Coordinator starting in the 2026 season.
McKinley succeeds Louis Boyd, who is transitioning to the Mariners’ player-development program as an assistant director. The hire was first reported by Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball.com.
McKinley brings a mix of collegiate head-coaching success and professional player-development experience. Before joining Nevada in 2022, he worked in professional baseball, including as Vice President of Player Development for the Milwaukee Brewers.
At Nevada, McKinley quickly revitalized the program. Under his leadership, the Wolf Pack won the 2025 Mountain West Conference regular-season title and achieved 33 wins—their first 30-win season since 2019 and the most wins since 2016. He was named Mountain West Coach of the Year for 2025.
He also helped develop players who advanced to professional baseball, demonstrating his ability to nurture talent.
