The Pittsburgh Steelers speedster is returning to the NFC.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver T.J. Luther has re-signed with the Carolina Panthers for the second time this month following recent roster changes in Carolina.
Luther was released by the Panthers last week but returns to the team after wideout Moose Muhammad was released with an injury designation.
Previously, Luther had spent time on the Panthers’ practice squad during the 2023 season and signed a futures contract heading into 2024. That stint was cut short last week when he was released before being brought back amid the team’s roster adjustments.

Luther faces steep competition for a spot on Carolina’s active roster, with standout receivers like Tetairoa McMillan, Xavier Legette, and veteran Adam Thielen ahead of him. Barring injury, Luther is unlikely to see much playing time this season.
The 24-year-old has had a winding NFL journey since going undrafted in 2023. After a strong senior year split between Wofford and Gardner-Webb—where he posted 55 catches for 1,035 yards and seven touchdowns—Luther initially signed with the New York Jets but was released before the regular season began.
He later had short stints with the New England Patriots in 2023 and 2024, and joined the Steelers’ practice squad in August 2024. Luther played in two preseason games with Pittsburgh before being released. He then signed with the Green Bay Packers, followed by his initial move to the Panthers.
While he remains a long shot to crack the Panthers’ 53-man roster, Luther will continue to pursue his NFL dream on the team’s practice squad.
