REPORT: Kellen Moore Gets Vocal on Potentially Adding Veteran QB for Saints

Kellen Moore is already facing uncertainty at quarterback with the New Orleans Saints. The situation became even more complicated when Derek Carr announced his retirement from the team on May 10.

Despite the recent addition of Hunter Dekkers, many fans and analysts believe Kellen Moore still needs to bring in another quarterback to strengthen the Saints’ depth at the position.

But is the rookie head coach actually thinking about bringing in another quarterback? Kellen Moore addressed the question Monday during an interview with NFL Network.

“If the opportunity comes along and it feels like the right fit, we’d definitely be open to it,” Moore said.

While he seems receptive to the idea, Moore also expressed confidence in the current quarterback group following Carr’s departure.

“We believe we’ve got a solid group here—guys who can support and learn from one another as they go through this process,” he added.

Kellen Moore believes Saints have QB healthy place

Moore, a former left-handed quarterback himself, feels a strong connection with the Saints’ 2025 quarterback room. He believes that experience makes New Orleans a quarterback-friendly environment.

“Our QB room benefits from the combined experience of myself, offensive coordinator Doug Nussemeier, and QB coach Scott Tolzein,” Moore said. “We’ve all been involved in the game for a long time, both as players and coaches.”

Overall, Moore wants to give the current group a fair chance. Does that mean he’s ruling out adding another quarterback?

“We do feel good about our room, but we’re always open to improving the roster if the right opportunity arises,” Moore said.

Moore will need to settle on his starting quarterback soon, ideally during training camp and preseason. Tyler Shough, the newest addition from the draft, has already responded to the possibility of starting. Meanwhile, Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener are also vying to claim the starting role.

The veteran quarterback options are limited if Moore decides to pursue a free agent. One notable name is Aaron Rodgers. Meanwhile, the Saints are keeping an eye on the rival Atlanta Falcons’ situation with Kirk Cousins, who is facing the possibility of being released by the June 1 cap deadline despite multiple Pro Bowl selections.
