A former Pittsburgh Steelers running back was cut by his new CFL team after just two days of training camp.
Former Georgia Bulldogs and Pittsburgh Steelers running back Daijun Edwards has been released by the Montreal Alouettes only two days into their 2025 training camp. Edwards, who signed a two-year contract with the team in February, was let go on May 13 due to poor conditioning and reported professionalism issues.
According to multiple reports, Edwards arrived at camp significantly out of shape. Eric Leblanc of RDS stated that team officials even joked internally about whether they had mistakenly signed the wrong player, as Edwards’ fitness level raised serious doubts about his football background. Among all camp participants, his lack of conditioning was reportedly the most glaring.

Edwards had joined the Steelers as an undrafted free agent following a solid college career at Georgia, where he accumulated over 2,000 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns. He had some promising moments during the 2024 NFL preseason — including a touchdown on seven carries — but was ultimately waived before the regular season.
The 24-year-old was expected to be a key contributor for a strong Alouettes squad that made a deep playoff run last season after winning the Grey Cup in 2023. However, his early exit underscores how quickly opportunities can evaporate without adequate preparation. The team has not disclosed Edwards’ weight at the time of release, though his last official measurement at the 2024 NFL Combine listed him at 5’9″ and 207 pounds.
