Report: Grizzlies Swap Veteran Player for $109 Million Star in Blockbuster NBA Trade Idea

The Memphis Grizzlies send star Ja Morant to the Miami Heat in this wild NBA trade proposal

The Memphis Grizzlies were swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder, a disappointing finish that was compounded when star point guard Ja Morant suffered a hip contusion in Game 3, forcing him to miss the remainder of the series.

Despite the early exit and injury setback, the Grizzlies appear committed to continuing their long-term plans centered around Morant.

“There is the belief that Memphis still views the former All-Star as a player to build around not just next season but in the foreseeable future,” ESPN’s Bobby Marks recently said regarding Ja Morant.

Still, there’s a possibility the Grizzlies consider making significant changes this offseason. If Ja Morant were to become available, numerous teams would be eager to pursue the dynamic guard—among them, the Miami Heat.

Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey floated a bold trade scenario involving Morant being sent to Miami in a deal headlined by All-Star forward Andrew Wiggins.

Miami Heat receive: Ja Morant

In Andy Bailey’s proposed trade, the Heat would land a dynamic, high-upside playmaker in Morant, potentially giving Miami the superstar boost they’ve lacked at point guard. The deal would mark a major shakeup for both franchises, signaling a shift in direction for Memphis and an aggressive win-now move for Miami.

Memphis Grizzlies receive:

  • Andrew Wiggins
  • Nikola Jović
  • Jaime Jaquez Jr.
  • Pelle Larsson
  • 2029 first-round pick
  • 2031 first-round pick swap

In this hypothetical trade, the Grizzlies would receive a mix of established talent and promising young players, along with future draft assets. Andrew Wiggins brings veteran experience and playoff pedigree, while Jović and Jaquez offer developmental upside. Pelle Larsson adds depth, and the 2029 pick and 2031 swap provide long-term flexibility. It’s a substantial return—but still a steep price for Miami to pay for Ja Morant’s star power.

Ja Morant, 25, put up impressive numbers this season—averaging 23.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 7.3 assists, and 1.2 steals per game—reaffirming his status as a star-level talent. However, his growing injury history is a legitimate concern. Morant has appeared in only 59 games over the past two seasons, raising questions about his long-term durability despite his consistent on-court impact when healthy.

In this proposed trade, the Grizzlies would acquire Andrew Wiggins, who was dealt to the Heat at the February trade deadline. Wiggins averaged 19.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists over 17 games with Miami, showing he can still be a reliable wing scorer and creator—something Memphis could use alongside Desmond Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr.

As for Ja Morant, the upside remains sky-high. If he can stay healthy and avoid off-court issues, he has the potential to be one of the premier guards in the league. For a team like the Heat, known for taking calculated risks, rolling the dice on Morant’s availability could be a bold but rewarding move this offseason.
