Yankees And Met Pulls Off Another Stunning Trade That Will Have Far Reaching Consequences.!!

The New York Yankees have been exploring several infield options this offseason, and now they’re being linked to a fan favorite from their division rivals.

After the New York Mets signed Juan Soto and Clay Holmes away from the Yankees, New York now appears to be targeting a player from the Mets’ roster. According to New York Post MLB insider Mark W. Sanchez, the Yankees are connected to José Iglesias, who became a fan favorite during his brief time with the Mets last season.

“Would the Yankees trigger a different kind of ‘OMG’ reaction from Mets fans? The 35-year-old second baseman still lingers in free agency after a brilliant stint in Queens in which he hit .337 over 85 games. While his advanced metrics don’t suggest his performance was sustainable, his smooth defense proved he’s still a major league player,” Sanchez noted.

Iglesias could provide valuable depth for the Yankees, possibly even starting at second base while Jazz Chisholm Jr. stays at third. His time with the Mets in 2024 was highlighted by his catchy song “OMG,” which became a rallying cry for New York fans. Iglesias posted a solid .337 batting average, with 4 home runs and 26 RBIs over 85 games.

Mets Likely to Move On From Iglesias

Despite Iglesias’ popularity, the Mets are not expected to re-sign him. The team has not pursued the 35-year-old infielder aggressively, and with the January 31 addition of depth infielder Nick Madrigal, it seems less likely Iglesias will return. Madrigal, who was drafted fourth overall by the Chicago White Sox in 2018, signed a split deal with the Mets. The deal adjusts based on whether he plays in the MLB or minors.

MLB insider Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported on January 30 that the Mets haven’t shown strong interest in bringing Iglesias back: “The Mets haven’t yet strongly pursued Jose Iglesias, who belongs in Queens. OMG, does he ever!” he wrote.

Madrigal’s signing likely signals the end of Iglesias’ tenure with the Mets. The 27-year-old Madrigal has appeared in 285 games, hitting .274 with 4 home runs and 77 RBIs in his career.

Yankees Owner Reflects on Spending
The Yankees have had a busy offseason, but it seems their spending spree might be winding down. The team has added Max Fried, Devin Williams, Cody Bellinger, and Paul Goldschmidt. However, owner Hal Steinbrenner suggested that the Yankees’ financial moves are mostly complete, citing the challenge of competing with the Los Angeles Dodgers’ vast spending power.

“It’s difficult for most of us owners to be able to do the kind of things that they’re doing,” Steinbrenner said in an interview with YES Network. “We’ll see if it pays off.”

The Yankees have the third-highest luxury tax payroll in MLB, trailing only the Phillies and Dodgers.

Although Steinbrenner believes the team is mostly done with big moves, he’s optimistic about their improvements. “We’re excited about [the offseason moves],” he said. “A lot of hard work in December into January. Some people may disagree with me, but some people will agree with me. I think we have a better team than we did a year ago today. Our starting rotation’s better, our defense is better, and Bellinger and Goldschmidt, I think they’ll make up for a good deal of Juan’s offense.”

The Yankees are coming off a loss in the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers last season.
