Highly sought-after guard Kamryn Kitchen made her commitment to Virginia over Virginia Tech on Wednesday. Since Megan Duffy took over as the women’s basketball coach at Virginia Tech in early April, she’s been proactive. Duffy has assembled a new coaching staff and retained some players from the 2023-24 roster built by Kenny Brooks before his departure for Kentucky in late March, just after the Hokies were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament by Baylor.
With recruiting efforts underway, Duffy is starting to leave her mark on the Hokies’ program heading into the 2024-25 season and beyond. Recently, on Memorial Day night, Duffy secured a significant commitment from guard Katie Sears from North Carolina in the Class of 2025. Additionally, another pivotal recruit for Duffy announced her commitment would be revealed on Wednesday, selected from a list of six schools.
In her commitment decision, Kamryn Kitchen, who shifted from the Class of 2025 to the Class of 2024, declared her intention to attend Virginia. She opted for the Cavaliers over offers from Virginia Tech, Penn State, Illinois, Louisville, and Marquette.
Kitchen had previously visited Virginia Tech while Brooks was still the head coach but never received a scholarship offer from him, as per her statement to 247Sports. Following Duffy’s hiring, Kitchen revisited Virginia Tech, where the former Marquette coach offered her a scholarship. Notably, Kitchen mentioned she had never visited Marquette before Duffy’s move to Blacksburg.
