SAD NEWS: Texas Rangers 1B Exits After Taking Hard Hit by Pitch

Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger exited Saturday night’s matchup against the Los Angeles Angels after four innings due to a bruised left wrist. Burger was hit by a pitch from Angels starter Ryan Johnson during the third inning.

The Rangers said initial X-rays came back negative, and Burger is currently considered day to day.

“He got hit pretty hard. It’s already pretty swollen and sore,” Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said following the team’s 3-0 loss to Los Angeles. Schumaker added that the team could conduct additional scans and have Burger evaluated by a doctor later in the evening.

Burger attempted to remain in the game after the hit but struggled to swing the bat comfortably. Schumaker praised his toughness, noting that Burger rarely leaves a game unless he is dealing with significant discomfort.

Burger has been a key part of Texas’ offense this season, hitting 21 home runs—just one behind Joc Pederson for the team lead—while pacing the Rangers with 73 RBIs.
