Freddy Galvis officially retired from professional baseball on July 4, 2025, making the announcement through social media. Reflecting on his career, he called it the close of a 19-year journey, saying, “A dream that became reality now comes to an end.”

Born in Punto Fijo, Venezuela, Galvis began his baseball career when he signed with the Philadelphia Phillies as a 16-year-old international free agent in 2006. He debuted in the Major Leagues in 2012, also with the Phillies.

Over the course of ten MLB seasons, Galvis spent the majority of his time with Philadelphia, while also playing for the San Diego Padres, Toronto Blue Jays, Cincinnati Reds, and Baltimore Orioles.

After his time in MLB, Galvis continued his career abroad and in other pro leagues. He played for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in Japan’s NPB (2022–2023), then moved to the Mexican League with Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos in 2024, and finished up in his home country with Águilas del Zulia in the Venezuelan Winter League (2024–25). His last professional appearances came during that winter season in Venezuela.

In MLB, Galvis posted a .246 batting average, hit 109 home runs, and recorded 426 RBIs. He also showcased his speed and defensive skill, particularly excelling at shortstop.

In his farewell message, Galvis thanked his family, coaches, the various teams he represented, and his fans. He shared that baseball had started as a dream—one that he was fortunate enough to live out.

Former teammates and peers commended Galvis for his leadership, defensive prowess, and dedication to the game, often describing him as a model teammate.
