The Texas Rangers have made a swift roster move in response to a sudden setback: star shortstop Corey Seager underwent an appendectomy after exiting a recent game with abdominal pain, and he has now been placed on the 10-day injured list. Although Seager remains optimistic about returning to action this season, Texas needed immediate reinforcement to preserve its playoff push.
That reinforcement comes in the form of Dylan Moore, a veteran utility infielder whom the Rangers signed and assigned to Triple‑A Round Rock just days earlier after the Seattle Mariners released him on August 25. Known for his defensive versatility—having played every position except catcher—and his Gold Glove award in 2024, Moore brings valuable flexibility to the Rangers’ roster.
Despite his defensive strengths, Moore has had a challenging 2025 at the plate, hitting just .193 with nine home runs and 19 RBIs in 213 plate appearances. Nonetheless, the Rangers see his skill set as essential in the wake of Seager’s absence, particularly since he’s most comfortable at shortstop and can provide reliable defense during this critical stretch.

On Friday, the Rangers recalled Moore from Triple‑A when Seager was officially placed on the injured list. Moore, who had gone 1-for-4 in a minor league game that same night, is now starting for the Rangers—batting ninth and playing first base, while Ezequiel Durán shifts to shortstop . Meanwhile, to create space on the 40‑man roster, outfielder Evan Carter was transferred to the 60‑day injured list after suffering a broken wrist.
This move comes amid a wave of injuries that have hit Texas hard. In addition to Seager, second baseman Marcus Semien has been sidelined with a foot contusion, and pitcher Nathan Eovaldi is out for the season with a rotator cuff issue. Still, the Rangers have managed to keep their momentum, winning five of their last six games, and they hope Moore’s addition will help stabilize the infield while they fight to stay in playoff contention .
