The Montreal Victoire have bolstered their roster by signing two-time Walter Cup-winning defender Maggie Flaherty and hometown forward Jade Downie-Landry to one-year deals.
Downie-Landry, a native of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, returns to familiar territory. She played collegiate hockey at McGill and spent a season with the Montreal Force before being drafted by New York in the 2023 PWHL Draft, where she played the past two seasons.
“Jade brings a mix of offensive skill and physicality. She creates scoring chances, wins battles, and can shut down opponents — she’s reliable and impactful at both ends,” said GM Danièle Sauvageau.
The 29-year-old forward has tallied 12 goals and 7 assists over 54 PWHL games and has yet to miss a game in her pro career. She contributed 4 goals and 2 assists across 30 games last season.
“Representing my hometown is a dream. Wearing the Victoire jersey and playing for this city and its fans means everything to me,” said Downie-Landry.

Maggie Flaherty, 25, joins the Montreal Victoire after spending the last two seasons as a key part of the Minnesota Frost’s blue line. Over that span, she appeared in 46 regular-season games, tallying two goals and six assists, and added one assist in 16 playoff contests. Notably, both of her career goals have been game-winners. This past season, she recorded one goal and one assist in 22 games.
Flaherty is recognized for her physical style and defensive reliability. Earlier this season, she served a two-game suspension for an illegal check to the head of Boston’s Alina Müller. Despite that, Montreal sees room for growth in her offensive game.
“Maggie brings a steady presence on the back end. She’s a tough defender to play against, defends well, and is confident with the puck on her stick,” said GM Danièle Sauvageau. “Her offensive game will continue to grow, and she has great upside as a two-way defender in the PWHL.”
A native of Minnesota, Flaherty played her collegiate hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.
“I’m incredibly excited and grateful to continue my professional career with such an amazing organization,” Flaherty said. “I can’t wait to play in front of Montréal’s amazing fans and explore the beautiful city.”
