Breaking: South Carolina Lands Home Another Key Weapon From a Good Team.

The University of South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team has bolstered its frontcourt by adding 6-foot-6 center Madina Okot from Mississippi State University. Okot, a Kenyan native, joins the Gamecocks after a standout season with the Bulldogs, where she averaged 11.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game.

Prior to her time at Mississippi State, Okot played at Zetech University in Nairobi and represented the Kenyan National Team from 2022 to 2024. Her impressive physical attributes include a standing reach of 8’8″ and a wingspan of 6’10”, making her a formidable presence in the paint.

Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley expressed enthusiasm about the addition, highlighting Okot’s size, speed, scoring ability, and competitiveness. Okot’s experience in the SEC and her defensive prowess are expected to significantly enhance South Carolina’s frontcourt depth.
