Now Official: New York Rangers coach officially leaves the organization to join a shocking Western Conference team

New York rangers assistant coach Michael Peca has made the decision to leave the Rangers organization and join a shocking team team in the Western Conference.

In a surprising move, New York Rangers assistant coach Michael Peca has officially left the organization to join a Western Conference team.

This NHL offseason has already seen significant upheaval, with several teams, including the Rangers, reshaping their coaching staffs. Amid these changes, it has now been confirmed that Peca will no longer be behind the bench in New York.

Peca has been appointed as an assistant coach with the Chicago Blackhawks, joining Anders Sorensen under newly named head coach Jeff Blashill. The Blackhawks formally announced Blashill’s hiring yesterday, and have now finalized their coaching team by adding Peca, who leaves the Rangers after a stint as an assistant coach.

Peter Laviolette, former head coach of the New York Rangers, has been dismissed following the team’s failure to qualify for the playoffs in the 2024–25 season. This move marks the end of his two-year tenure with the Rangers, during which he led the team to the Eastern Conference Final in the previous season but struggled to maintain consistent performance thereafter.

In the aftermath of Laviolette’s departure, the Vancouver Canucks are reportedly considering him as a potential candidate for their vacant head coaching position. This opportunity arises after Rick Tocchet stepped down from his role with the Canucks, leaving the team in search of new leadership. Laviolette, known for his experience and previous success, including a Stanley Cup win with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2006, could be a fitting choice to help revitalize the Canucks’ performance in the Western Conference.

As of now, there has been no official announcement regarding Laviolette’s appointment with the Canucks. The situation remains fluid, and further developments are expected in the coming days.
