Major Breaking: Tigers Strengthens Depth With The Landing Home Of Another Hard-nosed Player

The Detroit Tigers have agreed to a minor league deal with left-handed pitcher Nick Margevicius, according to Chris McCosky of The Detroit News. The 6’5″ southpaw had been playing in the Mexican League with the Tecos de los Dos Laredos.

Margevicius, 28, appeared in the majors from 2019 to 2021 with the Padres and Mariners, compiling a 6.12 ERA over 110 1/3 innings. He spent the next two years in the upper minors with Seattle and Atlanta before signing to play in Taiwan in 2023, where he posted a 2.82 ERA with 86 strikeouts in 108 1/3 innings. He later moved to Mexico during the offseason.

Nick Margevicius gets first start with Mariners

The Mexican League can be a challenging environment for pitchers, but Nick Margevicius held his own in two starts, giving up just two runs over 10 1/3 innings. While he struck out only seven of 42 batters faced, he showed strong control, issuing just three walks and hitting one batter. That performance was solid enough to earn him another shot in affiliated baseball for the first time since 2023. Margevicius will aim to build on that momentum and improve his career 4.55 ERA across 369 2/3 minor league innings over five seasons.
