Rangers Temporarily Part Ways with Struggling Left-Handed Reliever Acquired from Central Divisional Rival After Series of……

It hasn’t been going well for this former Twins lefty with his new team.

The Texas Rangers announced that left-handed reliever Danny Coulombe, acquired from the Minnesota Twins at the trade deadline, has been placed on the 15‑day injured list due to a right shoulder strain. The move is retroactive to Monday, and Coulombe is now set to be eligible to return on September 16, giving the Rangers some breathing room in their bullpen plans.

In tandem with Coulombe’s placement on the IL, the club activated Cole Winn from the 15‑day injured list. Winn, who thrown a scoreless inning during a recent rehab appearance, returns to the bullpen after being sidelined, providing immediate relief as the team navigates this stretch run.

Danny Coulombe’s arrival in Texas came via a trade with the Twins, where the Rangers sent prospect Garrett Horn in exchange. At the time of the deal, Coulombe had posted an elite 1.16 ERA over 31 innings and consistently performed as a dependable high-leverage reliever.

Unfortunately, Coulombe’s performance dipped sharply following the move. He surrendered seven earned runs over just 8 ⅓ innings with the Rangers, including a rough outing on August 26 against the Angels, where he recorded just one out while giving up three runs and two home runs.

The decision to place him on the injured list reflects more than just physical concerns—it underscores how thin the margin for error can be when relying on newly acquired arms during a pennant chase. The Rangers are currently hovering just half a game behind the Mariners for the final AL Wild Card spot, making every bullpen arm crucial.

Coulombe’s repertoire—featuring a cutter, sinker, sweeper, four-seamer, and knuckle curve—made him a valuable asset for Texas heading into September. If he returns in time and regains form, he could still play a pivotal role in stabilizing the bullpen for the final push.

As the Rangers work through this transition, all eyes will be on how Cole Winn integrates back into the mix and how the rest of the relief corps adjusts in Coulombe’s absence.
