The Edmonton Oilers remain firmly interested in securing Maxim Beryozkin, the powerful Russian winger whose game has garnered significant attention. Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 211 lb, Beryozkin has developed a reputation in the KHL as both an offensive threat and a rugged physical presence. His breakout 2024–25 campaign saw him post 42 points in 66 regular-season games, followed by a strong showing in the Gagarin Cup playoffs. His improvement has only heightened Oilers management’s interest in bringing him into the NHL fold.
Yet Beryozkin has made it clear that, although his NHL dream is alive, he’s not rushing the transition. In an in-depth interview with Russian media, he stated, “My dream is to play in the NHL, against all these stars I have watched my whole life. I want to test myself at their level. Even if I am worse at first, I will not get upset and look for ways to improve my game.” He emphasized the value of patience in development, expressing satisfaction with his decision to delay his move until fall 2026.

Edmonton’s general manager, Stan Bowman, has echoed the organization’s long-term view, noting Beryozkin’s maturity, consistent playmaking, and comfort with the puck as key assets. “You can never have too many of those guys,” Bowman remarked in public. The Oilers have maintained communication with Beryozkin’s camp, and he remains a high priority prospect—especially with his KHL contract expiring in May 2025.
Despite the Oilers’ push, Beryozkin has opted to re-sign in Russia for at least one more year, making good on his decision to continue developing in the KHL. Following his team’s Gagarin Cup championship, he declined to commit to joining Edmonton, suggesting another season at home will better position him for success when he eventually makes the move.
If Beryozkin does join the Oilers in 2026, his skill set and physical approach could translate into an immediate impact—potentially skipping the AHL and contributing directly at the NHL level. His progress in the KHL, combined with Edmonton’s need to rejuvenate its prospect pool, makes him one of the most intriguing Russian prospects linked to the team right now.
