Orioles keep clearing space for something bigger with latest DFA

Orioles continue to shake things up (or at least shuffle paperwork) with DFA

The Baltimore Orioles are gearing up for an active MLB trade deadline season, following their recent trade of Bryan Baker to the Tampa Bay Rays. The team has been preparing their 40-man roster for potential moves, as evidenced by designating Corbin Martin for assignment on Sunday.

Martin, who made only one appearance for the Orioles this season, could be a gamble for teams looking to bolster their bullpen. With less than five years of service time, Martin wouldn’t be able to block an outright assignment if he clears waivers.

The Orioles are making room for left-hander Grant Wolfram, who was added to the roster for a doubleheader sweep against the New York Mets. Wolfram has allowed 2 runs on 4 hits while striking out 5 in 3 appearances out of the Orioles’ bullpen this season.

The Orioles’ recent moves suggest they’re positioning themselves to be one of the most active teams at the deadline, with several rental players available for trade. With the MLB Draft wrapping up on Monday, the focus will shift to the trade deadline at the end of the month.
