Breaking: Brewers, Diamondbacks could make for blockbuster trade partners

The Diamondbacks and the Brewers have been linked together for a trade that would include this much-talked about infielder.

Amid a flurry of trade deadline rumors, the Arizona Diamondbacks have recently been linked to the Milwaukee Brewers, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. While pitchers Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly have been part of the speculation, third baseman Eugenio Suárez has also emerged as a name drawing interest from the Brewers.

In his Friday column, Ken Rosenthal mentioned that Eugenio Suárez “makes sense” as a fit for the Brewers, though several other teams could also benefit from his skill set. Rosenthal highlighted Milwaukee specifically because they “could offer a controllable starter in return.” Suárez is having a strong season and was recently named an All-Star.

Ken Rosenthal wrote that Suárez, now a two-time All-Star, “also makes sense for the Milwaukee Brewers, among other clubs.” He noted that even if the Diamondbacks don’t fully commit to selling, they could still trade Suárez to make room at third base for Jordan Lawlar. With their current surplus of starting pitchers, the Brewers could offer a controllable arm in return.

However, Rosenthal added, “For such a pitcher, though, the Brewers almost certainly would want more than two months of Suárez.” He also pointed out that with Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly both nearing free agency, the Diamondbacks might need to seriously consider a move like this.

It’s no surprise that Suárez is drawing significant interest across the league—he’s hit 29 home runs, driven in 75 runs (fifth-most in MLB), and is batting .249 on the season.

Despite Brewers link, Eugenio Suarez wants to stay with Diamondbacks

Despite the trade rumors, Diamondbacks infielder Eugenio Suárez has made it clear he doesn’t want to be moved. As trade talks swirl around the league, Suárez has previously stated his desire to stay in Arizona. While he understands the business side of the game, he told Rosenthal he feels “comfortable” with where he is right now.

“I don’t want to leave Arizona,” Suárez said. “Obviously, we all understand how the business side of baseball works. But right now, I feel comfortable here. Every time we win, I believe we still have a shot at making the playoffs. When we lose, that’s when thoughts about a possible trade start to creep in—which isn’t good for me. I really don’t want to be traded.”

In addition to Suárez, pitchers Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly have also surfaced in trade rumors, largely due to the possibility of the Diamondbacks losing them to free agency. With both improving as the season progresses, multiple teams could be interested in acquiring them. However, Rosenthal previously noted that it’s “unlikely” Arizona will move both arms.

“On the flip side, if the Diamondbacks sell, they are unlikely to trade both Gallen and Kelly, according to sources briefed on their plans,” Rosenthal reported. “The DBacks are already without Corbin Burnes and Jordan Montgomery. If they part with both Gallen and Kelly, they might not have enough young pitching to make it through the season.”

Arizona enters Friday night’s series opener against the Los Angeles Angels with a 46-48 record, placing them fourth in the NL West as they begin their final series before the All-Star break.
