Out-of-contract Rangers Signed Another 26 Years Old star to a one-year Bridged deal ahead of the Champions League qualifiers

Rangers have wasted no time strengthening their squad ahead of the Champions League qualifiers, bringing in four new signings already. Amid this flurry of transfer activity, the club also moved to secure continuity further down the roster by offering backup goalkeeper Kieran Wright a one-year contract extension. Wright’s new deal ensures he remains in Glasgow as depth behind Jack Butland, Liam Kelly, and academy prospect Mason Munn

Wright’s career has been defined by loan moves across Scotland’s lower leagues rather than first-team appearances at Ibrox. Since emerging from Rangers’ youth academy, his senior experience spans spells at Gala Fairydean Rovers, Albion Rovers, Dumbarton, Alloa Athletic, Raith Rovers, Partick Thistle (where he won the 2020–21 League One title), Livingston, and Airdrie. Last season, he made 24 appearances for Airdrie and played a key role in helping them retain their Championship status via the relegation play-off.

Despite never making a competitive appearance for Rangers, he has been a constant presence in the matchday squad for the past nine seasons. Wright’s commitment and reliability have made him a trusted figure in training, and now he’ll enter his tenth year as a first-team squad member—even if he’s unlikely to feature in matches this season .

From a squad-building perspective, Wright’s extension highlights Rangers’ thoughtful approach: they’re pursuing high-profile signings like Max Aarons, Joe Rothwell, Thelo Aasgaard, and Emmanuel Fernandez while also valuing continuity and stability through experienced, if underused, squad players.

As Russell Martin reshapes the squad for the rigours of European football, Wright will continue to play a vital behind-the-scenes role. His presence ensures that Rangers maintain vital goalkeeping depth, helping to support the team as they balance domestic and continental ambitions.
