Brewers Star Reportedly Be Nearing End Of Road With Milwaukee

First baseman Rhys Hoskins, who has proven postseason experience, is enjoying a strong comeback season. Milwaukee recently added more depth at first base by acquiring Andrew Vaughn from the Chicago White Sox, prompting speculation that Hoskins could be on the move. His contract includes an $18 million mutual option for 2026, which is widely expected to be declined, making a trade more likely.

Hoskins is likely to seek a more lucrative deal in free agency, and the Brewers probably won’t be eager to pick up that option. So who might be a trade partner? According to Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald, the Boston Red Sox could be a match.

“If not Josh Naylor, another first base option for Boston could be Milwaukee’s Rhys Hoskins,” Cerullo wrote. “He’s on track to hit over 25 home runs for the sixth time in his career, and both his strikeout and walk rates have improved after a rough 2023 season lost to injury.”

Cerullo also noted that Hoskins hits right-handed, adding balance to a lineup that could include Trevor Story and potentially Alex Bregman. Like Naylor, Hoskins is set to hit free agency this winter and would be a short-term rental.

While the Red Sox have underperformed compared to the Brewers this year, a deal could address Boston’s need at first base—though it would cost Milwaukee a key offensive contributor.
