The Edmonton Oilers have traded veteran forward Evander Kane to the Vancouver Canucks in return for a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, both teams announced on Wednesday.
“Evander brings a strong physical presence and adds size and grit to our lineup,” said Canucks GM Patrik Allvin in a statement. “We appreciate his ability to win puck battles along the boards and his effectiveness in front of the net.
“He’s a mobile skater and a proven goal scorer in the NHL. We’re thrilled to welcome him back to Vancouver and look forward to working with him this season.”
Kane, 33, recorded 44 points—24 goals and 20 assists—across 77 games during the 2023-24 season. The 15-year NHL veteran also set a personal best with 250 hits and led the Oilers with 85 penalty minutes that season.
He signed a four-year, $20.5 million deal with Edmonton in 2022 but missed the entire 2024-25 regular season while recovering from several surgeries. He returned in time for the 2025 playoffs, notching six goals and six assists over 21 games.
Kane led the NHL in playoff penalty minutes (37) in 2023-24 and finished third in the league with 44 penalty minutes during the 2024-25 postseason.
