The Braves bring back Fredi Gonzalez as third base coach, nine years after his firing, replacing Matt Tuiasosopo amid a rough stretch.
Fredi González has returned to the Atlanta Braves as the team’s third-base coach, marking his first role with the organization since his dismissal as manager in May 2016 . González, who managed the Braves from 2011 to 2016, led the team to two postseason appearances and a National League East title in 2013. He was let go following a 9–28 start to the 2016 season, which was one of the worst in franchise history.

Prior to his managerial tenure with the Braves, González served as the team’s third-base coach from 2003 to 2006. His return to the Braves organization comes after a varied coaching career, including stints with the Florida Marlins (now Miami Marlins), where he managed from 2007 to 2010, and the Baltimore Orioles, where he served as bench coach from 2022 to 2024.
González’s reappointment is seen as a positive development for the Braves, who are currently navigating a challenging season. His extensive experience and familiarity with the organization are expected to provide valuable leadership and stability to the team’s coaching staff.
The Braves are scheduled to face the Arizona Diamondbacks later today. González’s return to the dugout will undoubtedly be a focal point for fans and players alike as the team looks to turn its season around.
