The Buffalo Bills re-signed veteran cornerback Tre’Davious White in free agency, aiming to bolster their secondary with his experience and leadership.
However, White had a challenging start during the team’s first round of OTAs, as quarterback Josh Allen frequently targeted him in drills. While he’s expected to play a key role this season, there are lingering concerns about whether his speed and athleticism have diminished following two significant injuries in recent years.

Tre’Davious White Gives Up Touchdown at Practice
Reporter Alex Brasky observed that Josh Allen went after Tre’Davious White early in the Bills’ May 27 practice, completing a pair of deep passes against the veteran cornerback.
“A few notes from 11v11 team drills at #Bills voluntary OTAs,” Brasky posted on X. “Josh Allen finds Curtis Samuel streaking across the formation, TD against Tre White. Allen finds Elijah Moore downfield, Tre White in coverage.”
Despite a shaky start, Tre’Davious White bounced back later in practice, displaying the speed and agility that once earned him All-Pro honors during his earlier tenure with the Bills.
“Tre’Davious White is back in a Bills helmet and uniform. I thought he looked good today. Quick feet and change of direction,” WGR 550 reporter Sal Capaccio shared on X.
White’s sluggish start likely isn’t a clear reflection of his standing on the depth chart, especially since early OTA sessions—without pads or full contact—typically give the offense an edge.
White’s Big Return to Buffalo
Tre’Davious White entered the NFL as a first-round pick by the Bills in 2017 and played a key role in ending the franchise’s 17-year playoff drought. His impact grew even more significant following Josh Allen’s arrival in 2018, helping turn Buffalo into a consistent Super Bowl contender.
White reached a career peak with an All-Pro selection in 2019, but his trajectory was derailed by a torn ACL and later a torn Achilles within just over two years. In March 2024, the Bills released him as part of a series of cost-cutting decisions.
The Bills brought Tre’Davious White back in free agency, offering him an opportunity to compete for a starting role following the departure of former starter Rasul Douglas.
White expressed his gratitude for the return, saying he felt at home in Buffalo. “I just felt in place. I felt home. For that I’m forever grateful, and I’m so thankful to be back,” he said, according to the team’s official website.
He also shared that his family was equally excited about his return to the team.
“They were so excited to go into the attic, unbox those Buffalo blue jerseys and start back wearing that Buffalo blue again. So this is a big time for me,” White said.
He also revealed that he made it clear to his agent he only wanted to come back to Buffalo. “I told my agent, man, if you can’t get Buffalo on the line, just don’t call. This is the place that I want to be,” he shared.
