The Milwaukee Brewers have secured a $20.5 million, five-year contract extension with left-handed pitcher Aaron Ashby, keeping him with the team through the 2027 season. The deal includes club options for the 2028 and 2029 seasons. Ashby, 23, has shown promise with a 4.56 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 69 innings over 18 appearances. Brewers president of baseball operations, David Stearns, expressed confidence in Ashby’s growth potential and his commitment to the team.
In addition to Ashby’s extension, the Brewers have bolstered their bullpen by signing veteran reliever Jake McGee, formerly of the San Francisco Giants. McGee, 36, brings a wealth of experience with 79 career saves and a 3.64 ERA. Despite a challenging 2022 season, McGee’s addition aims to provide depth and stability to the Brewers’ relief corps.

These moves come on the heels of a significant investment in the team’s infrastructure. Wisconsin lawmakers approved a $500 million funding package to renovate American Family Field, ensuring the Brewers remain in Milwaukee through 2050. The package includes $365.8 million in state funding, $135 million from the city and county of Milwaukee, and $150 million from the Brewers themselves.
The renovations aim to address aging infrastructure, including the retractable roof, seating areas, and luxury suites. Recent upgrades have already been implemented, such as new broadcast cabling, kitchen and restroom renovations, and updated refrigeration equipment. Further winterization projects are planned to commence after the 2025 season.
These investments underscore the Brewers’ commitment to maintaining a competitive team and a state-of-the-art facility, ensuring that Major League Baseball continues to thrive in Milwaukee for years to come.
