REPORT: Lions Urged to Add Former $21 Million Bears Starter Before Season

The Detroit Lions are set to boast a stronger defensive front in 2025 with star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson returning, but concerns remain about whether they’ve sufficiently bolstered the defensive end position this offseason.

If those concerns persist, could a move for a former Bears starter be in the cards?

Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton recently suggested a final free-agent addition for every NFL team ahead of the 2025 season, linking the Lions to veteran defensive end DeMarcus Walker, who has started for Chicago over the past two years.

The Lions already have a connection to DeMarcus Walker, having hosted him for a free-agent visit ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft in early April. Now, Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton is encouraging them to make the move official to help solidify their pass rush opposite Aidan Hutchinson.

“The Lions cut Za’Darius Smith,” Moton noted on May 24. “Marcus Davenport has missed 28 games over the previous two terms. Walker would be a more reliable starter and rotational pass-rusher opposite Aidan Hutchinson, who’s working his way back from a fractured tibia and fibula.”
