It Pays To Add Depth: Just in Steelers Lands Home in Commitment Of Another Key Player From a Good Team…

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced Wednesday the signing of former Houston Texans offensive lineman Nick Broeker, while releasing Lecitus Smith.

Smith, a 2022 sixth-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals, has seen a whirlwind start to his NFL career. After stints with the Cardinals, Packers, Patriots, Eagles, and Texans, he was released by New England earlier this offseason following a midseason claim off the Packers’ practice squad.

Broeker, a seventh-round selection by the Buffalo Bills in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss, was waived by Buffalo before the regular season and picked up by the Texans. He appeared in 12 games over two years in Houston before being released two weeks ago. The Steelers signed him just ahead of the start of OTAs.

Though Broeker has experience at both guard and tackle, Pittsburgh lists him as a guard, indicating he’ll compete for a spot on the interior offensive line. With the departure of Nate Herbig this offseason, the Steelers are looking to solidify their depth inside. Broeker brings valuable experience and versatility that could help strengthen that unit as the team prepares for training camp.
