The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially signed their first-round draft pick, defensive tackle Derrick Harmon, to a four-year rookie contract valued at $17.95 million, which includes a fifth-year team option. Harmon, selected 21st overall in the 2025 NFL Draft, is expected to bolster the Steelers’ defensive line alongside veteran Cam Heyward and rising star Keeanu Benton.
Head coach Mike Tomlin expressed enthusiasm about Harmon’s potential, highlighting his ability to impact both the run and pass defense. Tomlin emphasized the importance of a strong interior line in building a formidable defense.
Harmon’s college career includes a standout season at the University of Oregon, where he recorded 45 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and five sacks. Prior to Oregon, he played three seasons at Michigan State, accumulating 70 tackles and 6.5 tackles for loss
Off the field, Harmon is navigating the recent loss of his mother, Tiffany Saine, who passed away shortly after he was drafted. Despite this personal tragedy, Harmon remains focused on his football career, finding solace and purpose in the game.
As Harmon embarks on his professional journey, the Steelers are optimistic about his contributions to their defensive unit and his development under the guidance of seasoned players like Heyward.
