Braves Release Two Veterans
The Braves have released two veteran players: outfielder Charlie Morton and pitcher Lucas Sims. Morton, a former All-Star, has been with the Braves since 2020 and has been a key contributor to their pitching staff. Sims, a right-handed pitcher, has also been with the Braves in the past and was recalled to the bullpen earlier this season but did not make the final roster.
Andruw Jones Returns as Special Assistant
The Braves have officially hired Andruw Jones as a special assistant to baseball operations. Previously a guest instructor during spring training, Jones will now work full-time with the team, focusing on outfield development and assisting with international initiatives. The 10-time Gold Glove winner and five-time All-Star is also set to be inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame this summer.
Lucas Sims Signs Minor League Deal with Phillies
Right-handed pitcher Lucas Sims has signed a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. Sims, a Lawrenceville, Georgia native, has previously played for the Braves, Reds, Red Sox, and Nationals. He was released by the Nationals on May 9 after struggling to a 13.86 ERA in 18 appearances. Sims was recalled to the Braves bullpen earlier this season but did not make the final roster.
