The Los Angeles Chargers received a positive update as linebacker Denzel Perryman is nearing full strength in his recovery. According to NFL.com, Perryman has been cleared to participate in offseason workouts, signaling a key step forward as he returns from injury.
Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman sustained an elbow injury during last season’s AFC Playoff loss to the Houston Texans. Now, according to NFL.com, Perryman says he’s feeling back to 100 percent as he gears up for offseason workouts.
This is welcome news for Los Angeles, which re-signed Denzel Perryman to a new contract in March. Perryman appeared for the Chargers during the 2024 season, recording 55 total tackles — 39 of them solo.
The veteran linebacker is now in his second stint with the franchise, having previously played for the Houston Texans and Las Vegas Raiders as well.
The Chargers won 11 games in the 2024 season.
Chargers expect some big things with Jim Harbaugh in 2025
Expectations are high in Los Angeles as head coach Jim Harbaugh enters his second season with the Chargers. Harbaugh guided the team to a playoff appearance in 2024, making an immediate impact in his first year at the helm.
Chargers fans are hopeful he can build on that success and take the team even further in 2025. Harbaugh returned to the NFL after leading Michigan to a national championship in 2023, leaving the college ranks for another shot at pro football glory.
The Chargers are clearly glad to have Denzel Perryman back in the fold. He played a key role in anchoring one of the NFL’s top scoring defenses in 2024, contributing 55 tackles, including two tackles for loss and a sack.
His impact on the field and veteran leadership made him a priority for the franchise, which showed its confidence in him by re-signing him rather than letting him walk in free agency.
“They brought me back for a reason. I still feel like, regardless of my age, I still bring some type of value to the team,” Denzel Perryman told reporters on Tuesday.
The veteran linebacker also praised the chemistry within the Chargers’ linebacker room, noting the strong bond among the group.
“Bringing guys back in the room, you don’t have to build a new bond with people. There’s one or two faces in the room that’s new, but we kind of know what each person is going to bring to the table,” Perryman said. “We are like brothers in that room. I feel we are a tight-knit group.”
Perryman has enjoyed an accomplished career, including a standout 2021 season with the Raiders in which he recorded 154 total tackles. Over his career, he has totaled 717 tackles.
Before reaching the NFL, he starred at the University of Miami, where he was a two-time first-team All-ACC selection.
The Chargers, now looking to build on recent success under head coach Jim Harbaugh, are still chasing their first Super Bowl title. Their last appearance came during the 1994 season, when they were based in San Diego.
