End of the Road.!! Steelers part ways with promising Key Positioned Player

Steelers Waive Versatile Offensive Lineman Lecitus Smith Ahead of OTAs

The Pittsburgh Steelers have waived offensive lineman Lecitus Smith, per the NFL’s official transactions list on Tuesday. With organized team activities (OTAs) set to begin in a week, the Steelers now have two open roster spots to make further adjustments.

Smith, who was previously released by the New England Patriots earlier this offseason, was briefly on the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad before being claimed during the season.

Originally a sixth-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2022 NFL Draft, Smith has bounced around the league during his first three years, spending time with the Cardinals, Packers, Patriots, Eagles, and Texans.

Across 18 career games, Smith has made three starts — one of which came last season in New England as a jumbo tight end. He’s logged experience at guard, center, and even tight end in heavy formations, highlighting his versatility.

Despite playing over 200 snaps in his rookie year, Smith has seen limited action since then, recording fewer than 50 snaps in the past two seasons.

The Steelers’ decision to release Smith follows their recent signing of offensive lineman Gareth Warren from rookie minicamp, suggesting continued shuffling to find the right depth heading into training camp.
