Just In: Veteran Lineman Makes Case for Steelers Signing on NFL Network ”Steelers Has Been My Dream Team.

Veteran defensive lineman Lawrence Guy would be happy to play for the Pittsburgh Steelers. After adding two tackles in the NFL Draft, is he a necessary addition?

As the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to fine-tune their roster ahead of the 2025 NFL season, veteran defensive lineman Lawrence Guy has publicly made his case to join the team. Appearing on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, the 34-year-old free agent voiced his admiration for the Steelers and his desire to be part of their storied defensive tradition.

“I’m a defensive guy, I need to go to defensive teams,” Guy said. “I would do it, I would go to Pittsburgh. I love the organization And it would be a dream come true to play with them… This team is known for defense.”

Guy, who previously played for the Ravens (2014–2016) and most recently with the Bengals in 2024, is eyeing what would be his third AFC North team. His stint with Cincinnati was underwhelming, as he appeared in just four games, logging 90 snaps without recording a pressure and tallying only two tackles, according to Pro Football Focus.

Despite his enthusiasm, the Steelers’ defensive line appears largely set following a busy offseason. Pittsburgh selected standout Oregon defensive tackle Derrick Harmon in the first round and added Iowa’s Yahya Black before addressing quarterback needs. With Cameron Heyward still anchoring the unit and rising talent Keeanu Benton returning, playing time would be hard to come by for Guy.

While he jokingly embraced the idea of joining Heyward as a veteran duo — saying, “Me and Cam… we kind of look like each other, but he has hair and I don’t” — the Steelers are unlikely to extend an offer. Though Guy’s experience and leadership are notable, his recent production and age (35) work against him.

For now, Pittsburgh seems focused on younger, more impactful contributors as it aims to build a defensive front capable of contending in the AFC.
