Veteran DL Lawrence Guy Open to Joining Pittsburgh Despite AFC North Past
Lawrence Guy, a seasoned defensive lineman who’s played for three of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ fiercest rivals—the Ravens, Patriots, and Bengals—has expressed interest in potentially joining the Steelers for the 2025 NFL season. Appearing on NFL Network’s Good Morning Football, the 35-year-old free agent said he’d gladly suit up for Pittsburgh, highlighting his defensive mindset and admiration for the team’s legacy.
“I’m a defensive guy. I need to be on a defensive team,” said Guy, who has spent over a decade facing off against the Steelers. “I’d do it—I’d go to Pittsburgh.”
Though he’s currently unsigned and last played in just four games for the Bengals in 2024, Guy emphasized his respect for the Steelers’ defensive tradition and said he’d relish lining up alongside Cameron Heyward, another long-time veteran. “We’re two old guys, but we’ve still got it,” he joked, praising the franchise’s history of defensive dominance.
Originally drafted by the Packers in 2011, Guy’s journey included stops with the Colts, Chargers, Ravens, Patriots, and Bengals. His most productive season came in 2015 with Baltimore, and he started over 100 games with New England, contributing to their 2018 Super Bowl-winning campaign.
While Guy’s resume is impressive, his recent production raises questions about his fit in Pittsburgh. With young talent like Keeanu Benton, Derrick Harmon, Yahya Black, and Logan Lee already on the roster, the Steelers may prioritize other positions over adding another aging veteran on the defensive line. Still, Guy’s interest in Pittsburgh speaks to the enduring appeal of the franchise’s defensive identity.
